The building with a total area of 79 thousand square meters is one of the most equipped theatre and concert venues in the world. The audience seats built according to series of steps which is traditional solution for world opera-houses can host up to 2000 spectators. In the new theatre there are 7 overground and 3 underground floors; main stage, rehearsal stage and backstage; rehearsal halls for ballet, opera and orchestra. In four chamber halls named after Mussorgsky, Prokofiev, Stravinsky and Shchedrin take place concerts, lectures and educational projects for children and young persons. Mariinsky II shares opera and ballet repertoire with the historical stage of the Mariinsky theatre.
